JASPER FRANK STILL Peacefully on October 25, 2006 at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, Jasper Still passed away at the age of 83. Jasper is survived by his wife Patricia of Winnipeg, sons David, Douglas (Jodi Young) and Michael, daughter Nancy (Alan Semchuk), three grandchildren Claire, Lisa and Adam Semchuk, his sister Dorothy (Gordon) Paine, his brother Harold (Bus), his brother-in-law Allan Mealy, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father Jasper Brett Still in 1932, his mother Frances Bessie Lobb (nee Guy) in 1973, and his sister Carol Bessie Taylor in 2002. Jasper was born in Winnipeg on October 18, 1923 first child of Jasper and Bessie Still. He lived in Winnipeg his entire life. He started his career in the insurance business with Morgan Nicholson, which was interrupted by his service during the Second World War. Jasper joined the RCAF and was a navigator stationed in Britain. There were many missions flown including the D-Day invasion. After the war he returned to Winnipeg and the insurance business with Warren, Still Johnstone Ltd. which he continued until retirement in 1997. In 1956 he married Patricia Mearns and together they raised four children. He was a proud father attending as many of his children's activities and sporting events as he could and especially enjoyed their baseball and hockey games. An avid fan of horse racing, he spent much time at Assiniboia Downs as well as visits to other racetracks while on vacation in South Florida. In addition to horse racing, he also enjoyed baseball and golf; he often spoke of visiting Fenway Park, home of his beloved Red Sox and playing golf at Pine Ridge Golf Club a place he considered the most beautiful course in Manitoba if not the world . Jasper spent many days at the Expos Spring Training Camp while he and Pat were in Lake Worth, Florida. Sadly the onset of his Alzheimer's Disease prevented them from enjoying their annual Florida vacations. We can only hope he experienced the joy of the Red Sox winning the World Series in 2004. He was also involved in several associations including Masonic Lodge and The St. Andrews Society, but the one he held closest to his heart was the Wartime Pilots Observers Association. The group met regularly, sometimes in hotels across Canada and even the occasional trip to England. The memories of the war never died for this bunch. The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the staff of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their commitment, kindness and compassion. Flowers are graciously declined, however friends and relatives may choose to make memorial contributions to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg or to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Jasper's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 3 at the Masonic Memorial Temple 420 Corydon Ave. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
